Past Participles

Past participle adalah bentuk ketiga dari sebuah kata kerja (V3). Past participle dapat berupa regular (-ed) maupun irregular. Past participle dapat berfungsi sebagai kata kerja ataupun menjadi kata sifat (adjektiva). Past participle berfungsi sebagai kata kerja apabila terdapat be atau have. Past participle berfungsi sebagai kata sifat jika tidak terdapat be atau have.

Formula :

1. Past participle sebagai kata kerja.

Past participle sebagai kata kerja berkaitan dengan Present Perfect, Past Perfect, dan Passive Voice.

S + be or have  (am, is, are, was, were, have, has, had) + V3

Contoh :

The students are listed on that paper.
The money was donated to the school.
He has read the book.
She had written a letter.

 

2. Past participle sebagai adjektiva.

Adjektiva berfungsi untuk menjelaskan kata benda. Past participle sebagai adjektiva berfungsi untuk menjelaskan subjek maupun objek.

S + V3 + P

V3 + Noun

Contoh :
The student registered in this school is talking to the teacher.

The broken door is being fixed.
The trained person.
