Past Perfect (Tense)

Beberapa tenses di dalam Bahasa Inggris mengungkapkan aktivitas di waktu lampau. Salah satu tense yang mengungkapkan aktivitas di waktu lampau adalah Past Perfect. Past Perfect adalah sebuah tense untuk mengungkapkan aktivitas yang telah selesai sebelum aktivitas lain selesai di waktu lampau.

Formula :

(+) S + had + V3

(-) S + had not + V3

(?) Had + S + V3 + ?

Time signal :

Past Perfect + before + Past Simple

Past Perfect + by the time + Past Simple

Past Perfect + when + Past Simple

Past Simple + after + Past Perfect atau Past Simple + after + Past Simple

Note :

Already, never, ever juga dapat digunakan dalam Past Perfect.

Contoh : 

 I had slept before my parents came home.

My cat had already gone by the time I got home.

My sister had gone to school when my uncle came home.

She watched the movie after her brother had played football.

I went to market after my mother came.
